About LCPH
Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) provides public health services for cities, townships, and villages in Lorain County, Ohio. The exception is the City of Vermilion, which receives services from the Erie County Health Department. LCPH is a general health district, created in 1920 under Ohio law. We are governed by our own Board of Health and operate separately from the County Commissioners. Our Board is appointed by mayors, city managers, and township trustees from across Lorain County. The Board sets public health policy, approves budgets, and guides community health programs.
LCPH has six departments that serve Lorain County.

We are an academic health department.
Kent State University - Lorain County Public Health MOU. LCPH signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kent State University (KSU) in Spring 2024
- The purpose is to provide a learning environment for students beyond a typical internship.
- KSU students may have the opportunity to take a KSU class at LCPH.
- Students may get paid depending on the nature of the project and course requirements.
- It will be part of KSU's course catalogue.
- It will be available to multiple students at a time.
- LCPH has committed to providing:
- Learning space for students.
- Access to physical and electronic materials to accomplish the goals of the class.
- This designation benefits LCPH.
- LCPH meets quarterly with KSU public health dean. The conversation helps deans prepare students for work in a local health department.
- Students perform actual LCPH work that contributes to the mission.
